The Design

The homeowners did their research on heating and cooling options for their new barndominium and found Benchmark Service, the top North Texas Diamond Elite Dealer. Jack Schmidt of Benchmark Service met with the customers and discussed their needs.

The open floor plan of the home and the quiet outdoor surroundings made a two-zone Mitsubishi ductless system the perfect choice. With one 20.5 SEER, 2-ton wall-mount installed in the large family room on the first floor and a second identical unit installed in the common area on the 2nd floor.

For the outdoor section of the system, Mr. Schmidt chose two independent 2-ton units. This approach, referred to as a one-to-one system, allows for true simultaneous heating and cooling in the spring and fall.

Each of the ductless indoor units were installed on exterior walls, out of the way, to optimize airflow throughout the space. Refrigerant lines were routed through inconspicuous line set covers and through the attic area of the garage down to Mitsubishi outdoor units which were placed and secured on heavy-duty mounting pads at the rear of the home.

The Benefits

Barndominiums can present challenges for conventional heating and cooling systems due to the use of closed-cell foam insulation and a sealed envelope. The Mitsubishi ductless air conditioning system is a versatile and highly efficient solution for a barndominium.

This system will keep the family home cool and comfortable all summer long and warm in the winter with the lowest energy bills possible. Additionally, the ductless units are incredibly quiet, both indoors and outdoors. Call us for more info!
