Contemporary Home in North Dallas goes Ductless

North haven

North Dallas is an excellent place to live. It’s a short drive to wonderful restaurants and shopping in a well-established, wooded neighborhood. The owners of this contemporary home which was built in 1959 have made many improvements over the years, but began noticing how the central A/C system in the house was struggling to keep up; additionally, the entire family battled with allergies. The homeowners knew it was time for a change and wanted to upgrade to something with more power and comfort.

The Problem:

The Solution:

An older ducted 5-ton HVAC system that was serving a large, single-story ranch home could not keep up, was loud, and expensive to run. The home had hot and cold spots as well as leaking duct work which was aggravating the homeowner’s allergies.

Jack Schmidt with Benchmark Service designed a new 8-zone ductless Mitsubishi system, using five Mitsubishi ceiling cassettes and three Mitsubishi wall-mount units.

The Solution:

Jack Schmidt with Benchmark Service designed a new 8-zone ductless Mitsubishi system, using five Mitsubishi ceiling cassettes and three Mitsubishi wall-mount units.

The Design

The homeowners had decided to find a solution to their air conditioning problems. They reached out to Benchmark Service after having the team previously install a Mitsubishi wall-mount unit in their guest house, which the homeowners were thrilled with. The homeowners asked if it were possible to have the Mitsubishi systems throughout the home. Jack met with the homeowners to discuss the new system and designed a multi-zoned, ductless air conditioning system that provides true simultaneous heating and cooling to all areas of the home.

The technologies used in these systems make them some of the most efficient on the market and have been proven to work in temperatures as low as -13 degrees Fahrenheit.

The Installation

Benchmark Service worked with the customer to minimize disruption in the home and began installing the indoor units in each of the separate rooms. The master bedroom, dining room, living room, offices, spare bedrooms, and common areas each required ductless A/C units. The tubing of each of these ducted A/C units would be piped through the attic to the outdoor units. Once the new ductless system was running, the Benchmark Team removed the existing conventional system and related ductwork. Painters then patched all the holes where the existing air conditioning grills had been.

The Benefits

By getting rid of the inefficient conventional HVAC system and its ductwork, this family will see huge savings on their energy bills throughout the year. Each ductless unit can be controlled independently from the other units and this flexibility allows the family to keep their kitchen cool and their rooms toasty without the hassle that comes with a central thermostat.

Instead, each room can be adjusted to their individual taste with a touch of a button from the remote control. They can even turn off the heating and cooling to rooms that are not in use, saving the owners even more on their energy cost. As an added bonus, the variable refrigerant flow technology incorporated into every Mitsubishi air conditioning product allowed the Benchmark design to take the home from 5-tons to 9-tons which drastically reducing their energy consumption while maximizing their heating and cooling comfort.
