The Design

When the family contacted Benchmark Service with their HVAC problems, Jack Schmidt met with them to assess the situation. Jack Schmidt is the founder of Benchmark Service and has a passion for providing high-quality heating and cooling solutions to our customers. Jack assessed the mechanical systems in the home. The attic was excessively warm and stagnant. The design of the roof system prevented the installation of efficient soffit intake vents. Foam encapsulation of the attic and installation of a Mitsubishi heat pump system was chosen as the ideal solution to overcome heating and cooling issues in the home.

The Installation

Technician installing

Before the installation process could begin, Jack and his team had to remove the existing HVAC system from the property. This process was done very carefully to ensure EPA’s standards are met and the unit is properly disposed of. The Benchmark team arranged to have the existing fiberglass insulation to be completely removed from the home and to have open-cell spray foam insulation sprayed on the back of the roof deck all the way down to the soffits.

The new 3 and ½ ton, 18 SEER Mitsubishi PVA air handler was installed horizontally in the attic with new plenums and a high-efficiency air filtrations system. The PVA system was chosen for its unmatched ability to provide high-static air pressure which will overcome restrictive duct runs and prevent hot and cold spots. A small, unobtrusive 2 and ½ inch penetration was made in the soffit to allow the thin refrigerant lines to pass through to an inconspicuous, outdoor line set cover which completely covers and seals the penetration. The lines passed vertically, straight down to the compact Mitsubishi outdoor unit which was mounted on a heavy-duty concrete pad, on-grade.

The Benefits

The new Mitsubishi Ducted Central Air System provides the home with consistent air conditioning throughout the year. The homeowners are able to keep their home at exactly the right temperature without having to worry about high operating costs. Additionally, the new system comes with a twelve-year warranty on all parts and compressor. Another benefit of choosing Benchmark Service is that the family receives one full year of free labor for any maintenance or unexpected repairs.

Like all Mitsubishi equipment, the indoor and outdoor units are silent while operating. The family will no longer have to talk over a loud, conventional A/C system or be awakened at night when the system kicks on. Instead, they’ll enjoy quiet comfort throughout the year without the drawbacks of other HVAC systems.
