This two-story barndominium in Oak Cliff, Texas was always too warm on the 2nd floor and too cold on the 1st floor. The open-design with underpowered, noisy window units caused a real heating and cooling challenge year-round

The Problem:

Solving the temperature discrepancy between the 1st and 2nd Floor

The Solution:

Install a new 5-zone High-Performance Mitsubishi Heating and Cooling System

The Design

We chose to place five independently controlled units in each of the occupied spaces in the home. This design allows each system to tailor the comfort to the homeowners needs.

The Installation

Five new indoor units were installed throughout the barndominium. Small, unobtrusive 2 and ½ inch penetrations were made in the exterior walls to allow the thin refrigerant lines to pass through to an inconspicuous, outdoor line set cover which completely covers and seals the penetrations. The lines passed vertically, straight down to two separate compact Mitsubishi outdoor units which were mounted on a heavy duty concrete pads, on-grade, on the North side.

The Benefits

Barndominiums can present challenges for conventional heating and cooling systems due to the use of closed-cell foam insulation and a sealed envelope. The Mitsubishi ductless air conditioning system is a versatile and highly efficient solution for a barndominium.

This system will keep the family home cool and comfortable all summer long and warm in the winter with the lowest energy bills possible. Additionally, the ductless units are incredibly quiet, both indoors and outdoors.
